영국 출신 가수 에릭 첫 싱글로 발표한 My Father's Eyes는 그가

아들 Coner의 눈을 바라보면서 한번도 보지 못한 아버지를 떠올리며

만든 노래인데  이 앨범에서는 베이비 페이스, 토니 리치가 자진해서

백보컬로 참여하기도 하였다. 

 

에릭은 자신의 노래 '천국의 눈물(Tears in Heaven)'과

'내 아버지의 눈(My Father's Eyes)을 다시는 부르지 않겠다고

선언했다. 잔잔한 기타 선율에 꺼끌꺼끌한 슬픔을 담아낸 그의

대표곡 '천국의 눈물' 등 두곡은 지난 91년 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼의

고층 아파트에서 추락사한 아들 Conor(당시 4세)에 대한 저미는 마음을

담은 것으로 모두 그래미상을 받았다.

에릭은 "나는 이 노래들을 연주하는데 너무나 큰 부분을 차지했던

상실의 감정을 더 이상 느끼지 못한다"고 말했다.

이어 "그 곡들을 작곡할 때 느꼈던 감정은 이제 사라졌고, 그런 감정으로

돌아가기를 바라지도 않는다. 이제 내 인생은 달라졌다"고 밝혔다.

그는 "아들을 잃었을 때 애끊는 심정으로 만들었던 곡을

행복할 때도 불러야 한다는 사실에 갈등을 느낀다"며 "그 곡들도

이제 휴식이 필요한지 모른다. 나중에 훨씬 더 초연한 입장에서

다시 소개할 수도 있을 것"이라고 말했다.

한동안 약물과 알코올로 자신을 마비시켰던 그는 다시 가정을

이루고 자녀도 낳아 행복한 생활을 하고 있다고 한다.
